Mai Xuan Duoc, a Mai Xuan Thuong's descendant, led me to the patriot Mai Xuan Thuong's tomb located at Vuon So mound in Phu Lac hamlet, Binh Thanh commune, Tay Son district. The area is also called Vuon Dao (peach garden) because many peach trees are grown here.

The tomb is directed toward the south and beside it lie three tombs of the Nguyen family name. Mai Xuan Thuong's tomb is, however, distinguished from the others thanks to its stone screen. In the middle of the screen is a stele written in Chinese characters.

At both side of the tomb are two pillars with two parallel sentences (cau doi) taken from parallel sentences of Mai Xuan Thuong's close friend, Dong Si Binh. He wrote them to present his condolences on the death of Mai Xuan Thuong. Reading two parallel sentences, I thought that they should be restored because they showed not only the fighting will of a patriot but memories of the friendship.

In 1961, Mai Xuan Thuong's remains were returned to the peak of Hoanh Son mountain range, called Ngang mountain, in Hoa Son hamlet of Binh Tuong commune. To commemorate his first final resting place, Mai Xuan Thuong's descendants still come here to burn incense on his death anniversary.

As narrated, before being beheaded, his face didn't become pale. When going to the scaffold, he turned to the north, praying to show his gratitude towards the King. He then turned to the west, praying to express his gratitude towards his parents. He finally unhurriedly recited a poem of Tang prosody.

Before being beheaded, Mai Xuan Thuong hair was tied to the top of a bamboo pulled down, so his head was hung in mid air when he was killed. Also, the straw and cloth were covered on the ground to prevent the blood from absorbing in the earth's womb. The enemy did this to stop the fighting spirit of Vietnamese people.

Under the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's (VINASHIN) development strategy, approved by the Government, VINASHIN will have 120,000 staff by 2010 and 200,000 by 2020. To meet the demand, VINASHIN annually trains nearly 15,000 workers, 400 managerial staff, and 1,200 professional staff. This is really an urgent requirement.

VINASHIN includes more than 300 members, including Binh Dinh Shipbuilding Industry-Transportation joint stock company (Binh Dinh VINASHIN). Binh Dinh VINASHIN is currently the investor for five projects in Binh Dinh and one of which has been kicked off since 2006.

The company is employing a total of nearly 200 staff, but by 2012 it will need 5,000, including 4,000 for Nhon Hoi Shipbuilding Industry factory, 350 for fleets, 500 for other projects, and 150 for professional activities.

After being set up, Binh Dinh VINASHIN initially employed 20 engineers and bachelors and had them trained at big companies, other shipbuilding factories, and universities. VINASHIN established a representative office of shipbuilding industry secondary school No.3 (Techshin III) in Binh Dinh in 2006. Until now, six courses with 400 trainees have been opened, according to Binh Dinh VINASHIN's director, Le Dinh Minh.

Also, to provide technical workers for Nhon Hoi shipbuilding industry factory and neighboring ones, VINASHIN decided to set up a Binh Dinh-based shipbuilding industry vocational secondary school (Shinco V) which is planned to open in the early fourth quarter of 2007. As planned, 1,000 trainees will be annually trained to meet the demand of human resource.

Alongside this, VINASHIN continued developing fleets in Binh Dinh. Binh Dinh VINASHIN has built many freighters, container ships with heavy load in recent years. Binh Dinh VINASHIN's fleet is expected to reach 42,800 DWT by 2009 and 130,000 DWT by 2012. Binh Dinh VINASHIN has actively recruited people to provide crew for fleets.

VINASHIN decided to invest VND60 billion in the construction of Shinco V. The expenditure for the Shinco V's training program in 5-10 years was approved, said Le Dinh Minh. He also believed that with the VINASHIN's concern, efforts of Binh Dinh VINASHIN, and the support of Binh Dinh people and authorities, Binh Dinh VINASHIN would build a good human resource, meeting the demands and the development of maritime transport as well as Vietnam shipbuilding industry.

Binh Dinh Province People's Committee on October 3 steered the study and overall plan of the geothermal power plant construction in Phu Cat district.

Provincial People's Committee authorized provincial Construction Department to coordinate with relevant bodies and agencies to plan the construction of the geothermal power plant in Hoi Van spa (Phu Cat district).

Provincial People's Committee asked departments and relevant bodies to pay attention to functional areas for the construction of the plant, the health spa, and the eco-tourism.

The export turnover of five wood furniture exporters in Binh Dinh reached US$9.82 million in 9 months of 2007, accounting for 8 percents of the total export turnover from wood products.

The export turnover of PISICO contributed $3.2 million, Nguyen Hoang private enterprise recorded at $2.5 million, and Phu Tai joint-stock company came in at $1.67 million.

Wood processors and exporters are, however, facing many difficulties. There haven't, hence, been many enterprises producing wood furniture. The main reason is owing to the lack of highly skilled workers.

PhD.Doctor Pham Ty, Director of Binh Dinh General Hospital, is the only Vietnamese representative at the first extraordinary Asia-Pacific Conference on Parkinson Treatment held in Singapore from October 20-22.

Many prof.doctors coming from medical universities and hospitals in the Asia-Pacific region will also attend the conference.

According to doctor Ty, at the conference, he will present a scientific report named "A study on the effectiveness and safety in treating Parkinson.

Binh Dinh Province People's Committee on October 3 promulgated the document on approving Thi Nai Port, PISICO, and Kim Cuc Construction and Transportation private enterprise to form a joint venture for the Thi Nai Port upgrade.

Thi Nai Port will contribute 40% of the total capital, while PISICO and Kim Cuc private enterprise, 30% each.

Provincial People's Committee authorized Thi Nai Port to coordinate with Departments of Planning and Investment, Finance, and relevant bodies to appraise Thi Nai Port before conducting the upgrade.

The 5-member-delegation of Binh Dinh martial arts, led by director of Binh Dinh Sports Department, Le Van Minh, will tour Rumania and Italy on October 19 at the invitation of International Qwan Ki Do Association.

In this tour, Binh Dinh’s Master and athletes will perform distinctive features of Binh Dinh martial arts, such as: ngoc tran quyen (maestro vittorio cera), bat quai con (eight trigrams cudgel), and hung ke quyen (cock kung-fu).

As planned, the tour of Binh Dinh martial arts delegation will end in November 7.

Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee has authorized Binh Dinh Import Export and Service-Investment-Producing Corporation (PISICO) to invest in Cambodia.

PISICO plans to invest in the reclamation, the use of products from licensed forests, planting of industrial and agricultural crops and timbers, and processing of forest products for domestic consumption and export.

PISICO previously signed a cooperation agreement to with Casotim Cambodia Russia (Russia) and Oaki Diay Angko (Cambodia).

Binh Dinh Province People's Committee has promulgated the Decision No 2135/QĐ-CTUBND on recognizing the first ranking of Binh Dinh General Hospital, two earlier than the proposal approved by provincial People's Council on August 4, 2004.

To gain the achievement, Binh Dinh General Hospital built a development route with particular criteria, such as the human resource, and the application of modern equipment and medical technologies.

Of 998 medical profession working in the hospital, there are one PhD doctor, 13 second degree medical doctors, 27 M.A doctors, and 56 first degree medical doctors. Besides, many doctors have being trained for different majors. The infrastructure was newly built.
